THE RIGHT SPACE IS MORE THAN SIZE

Climate or non-climate? Here’s how to choose.

Think about what you’re storing, how long it will stay, and how sensitive it is to temperature changes.

Climate-controlled storage

Helps moderate temperature changes inside the storage space. A good option for belongings you would normally keep inside your home.

Consider it for

Climate control does not automatically mean humidity control. Ask your facility about its system and conditions.

Non-climate storage

A practical option for durable belongings that can tolerate outdoor temperature changes. Often available with convenient drive-up access.

Consider it for

Drive-up access and climate control are separate features. Check the options at your chosen facility.

If you would worry about leaving it in your garage through a hot summer or a cold winter, start by asking about climate-controlled storage.

LET’S CLEAR A FEW THINGS UP

Most common storage questions.

Practical answers before you rent. Your facility team can confirm the details for your location.

What size storage unit do I need for my furniture?

Start with your largest pieces, then count your boxes. A 5 × 10 may work for one room, a 10 × 10 for a one-bedroom apartment, and a 10 × 20 for a small household move. These are estimates: furniture size, stacking, and an access aisle all affect what fits.

Will a king-size mattress fit in a 5 × 5?

A standard king mattress is wider than either wall of a 5 × 5. A 5 × 10 or larger is usually the more practical starting point. Check the mattress, door opening, and ceiling height before renting, and follow the manufacturer’s storage guidance.

Do I need climate-controlled storage?

Consider climate control for wood or upholstered furniture, electronics, photos, documents, and belongings stored through changing seasons. Non-climate storage can be a practical option for durable tools and outdoor equipment. Ask your facility how its climate system operates.

How much does a storage unit cost?

Rates depend on the location, unit size, climate control, access type, and availability. Visit your chosen facility for current pricing and ask about any one-time fees, coverage requirements, and promotion terms before renting.

Can I get to my unit after the office closes?

Office hours and gate access hours may be different. Check the facility’s posted access hours before renting; access schedules vary by property.

Do I need insurance or tenant protection?

Ask your facility about its coverage requirements before move-in. If you plan to use your own insurance, confirm that it covers belongings in off-site storage and ask what proof is needed.

What am I not allowed to store?

Do not store food that attracts pests, perishables, explosives, flammable fuels, hazardous chemicals, illegal items, or living things. Storage units cannot be used as living spaces. Review your rental agreement for the full prohibited-items list.

What if I need a different size or want to move out?

Contact the facility team about transferring to an available size. Before moving out, check your rental agreement for notice requirements, remove all belongings, sweep the unit, remove your lock, and let the office know you have vacated.
